Accommodations
What should I bring?
- Informal clothing. The only events that call for festive attire are the opening and closing dinners. Bring light clothes and sturdy hiking shoes. Kingston, NM feels pleasantly warm in June with an average high of 93°F (34°C) and a low of 62°F (16°C).
- Recreational equipment. Hiking tours are organized by the Summer School. You may want to bring a frisbee or other sports equipment.
- Musical instruments. Music plays an important role at the Summer School; in the past we have had classical, rock, and jazz performances. Please bring your instrument as well as your favorite music for dancing.
- Money. The room and board fee covers all meals and lodging for the duration of the school. Picnic lunches are prepared for the days when there are excursions. The tuition and fees do NOT cover transportation to and from the airport (although we can usually coordinate transportation with other program participants) and the optional Goethe-Institut exam fee; be prepared to pay up to $200 for these. In addition, you should bring pocket money for personal expenses. Please note that neither the Summer School nor the hotel are in the position to cash checks or money orders.
Rooms, Roommates, and Single Rooms
On the confirmation form which you will receive after acceptance into the program, you may indicate any specific housing preferences you may have, including a single room or a specific roommate, if you have one in mind. There is an extra charge for single rooms of approximately $800 for full time and $400 for half time. We will do our best to meet your request, but for logistical reasons we cannot guarantee it.
Will there be computers available?
You are encouraged to bring your own laptop. A few laptops and a printer will be available for all students and faculty to use.
Internet, Cell Phone, and Postal Information
Internet: The Black Range Lodge has Wifi.
Cell Phones: Most carriers DO NOT have reception in Kingston. Be prepared to use Wifi calling.
